About Betanzos Medieval Fair

The Betanzos Medieval Fair takes place July 11-13, 2025, with stalls opening at 11:30am in the historic town centre around Praza Irmáns García Naveira. This annual event has around 130 stalls selling handmade products, traditional crafts, and regional gastronomy with free admission.

The fair recreates the atmosphere of the 14th-15th century November market that made Betanzos an important commercial centre. Local residents perform historical reenactments depicting four key episodes from the town's history, including the arrival of the Lord of Andrade and the Irmandiño Revolt.

From what visitors report, the medieval atmosphere extends beyond the market stalls. Streets and building balconies are decorated with fabrics and banners representing Betanzos family coats of arms from the late Middle Ages.

You'll find traditional foods including handcrafted bread, local sausages, and handmade sweets alongside leather goods and handmade souvenirs. The fair also includes archery exhibitions at Santa María church and falconry demonstrations on Rúa Nova.

Based on reviews, many visitors come in medieval costume to enhance the historical experience. The pedestrianised streets make it easy to browse between craft demonstrations and food stalls while watching the continuous entertainment.

The fair has been running since 1998 and holds official recognition as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia. It's particularly popular with families due to the children's activities and interactive historical demonstrations.
