Betanzos Medieval Fair

The Betanzos Medieval Fair transforms the historic town centre into a captivating 15th-century marketplace each July weekend. Organised by Betanzos Town Council, the event pedestrianises the streets around Rúa Fonte de Unta, creating an immersive medieval atmosphere with period decorations and authentic stalls.

Craftspeople demonstrate traditional trades whilst vendors offer regional specialities including artisanal bread, local sausages, and handcrafted sweets. The fair features continuous entertainment, including historical reenactments depicting the arrival of the Lord of Andrade and the Irmandiño Revolt, as well as medieval tournaments and fire shows.

Folk concerts and children's activities complement the market atmosphere. Many visitors embrace the period theme by wearing medieval costumes. The pedestrianised streets make browsing between stalls selling handmade souvenirs, leather goods, and traditional crafts easy. The event attracts families, history enthusiasts, and tourists exploring Galicia's cultural heritage.

Located within Betanzos' well-preserved old town, the fair provides access to nearby attractions, including the Church of San Francisco and Plaza de los Hermanos García Naveira, making it an ideal weekend destination.

Betanzos is accessible by train from A Coruña via the FEVE narrow-gauge railway line.

Regular bus services connect Betanzos with A Coruña and other regional towns.

During the medieval fair, designated parking areas are available outside the historic centre.
