Central Market of Alicante

The Mercado Central of Alicante occupies an eclectic building with Valencian modernist elements, designed in 1915 and completed in 1922. It stands on Av. de Alfonso X El Sabio with its main façade accessed by a wide staircase, while the rear façade opens onto Plaza 25 de Mayo. The market has a large rectangular layout with a semi-basement level and an upper trading floor. It spans roughly 11,100 m² and contains about 292 stalls offering fresh produce, fish, meat, regional food items and specialised goods. The building serves as the primary municipal market of the city and is an important local shopping destination.

The market is situated in central Alicante and can be easily accessed on foot from surrounding streets. Tram services stop close to the area, and several urban bus routes run along Av. de Alfonso X El Sabio.
