About Els Encants Vells (Mercat dels Encants)
Els Encants Vells (also known as Mercat dels Encants or Fira de Bellcaire) is among Barcelona’s oldest market traditions, with roots dating back to around 1300. Today, the market occupies a contemporary three-storey structure near Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes in the Eixample district, at Carrer de los Castillejos 158, 08013 Barcelona. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., it opens to the public; on the same Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, there is an early-morning auction for traders (around 8 a.m.). Inside you’ll find a mixture of permanent shops and open-air style stalls selling new items, second-hand goods, recycled furniture, vintage pieces, electronics, clothing and accessories, as well as cafés and food outlets. The building’s distinctive mirrored roof and open layout allow natural light and views of the surrounding urban geometry. The market attracts both local residents and visitors seeking bargains, unique items, or to soak up the traditional Barcelona market environment.
