Two indoor municipal markets serve the city, both open six days a week and stocked with fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese and baked goods from the surrounding province.
Avila sits at over 1,100 metres on the Castilian plateau, and that altitude shapes what you'll find at the stalls. Expect hearty cured meats, pulses and the local chuletón de Ávila (a thick-cut beef steak the province is known for). For more on what to see in the city, the Avila tourism office has practical visitor information.

Avila has two covered municipal markets, each with a different character. The main Mercado de Abastos on Calle Enrique Larreta has around 25 stalls and accepts card and contactless payments. The Former Livestock Market on Avenida de Madrid is a smaller, cash-only market with free parking.
Both open Monday to Saturday mornings, so you can fit a visit into any day of the week except Sunday.
